1983 CAPTAINS & ANNIVERSARY CLASSICS
The 1983 All-Star Game was played on the same field as the first All-Star classic in 1933 - Chicago’s Comiskey Park. Babe Ruth hit
the first All-Star home run there, and Fred Lynn hit the first All-Star grand slam there. Using Ruth FDC postmarks, Gateway honored Hall of Famers Ernie Banks as the National League captain and Lefty Gomez as the American League captain, who also started in the 1933 classic. Along with Lefty Gomez, Bill Terry, Charlie Gehringer, and Bill Dickey played in the first All-Star Game. Gateway honored them as living members of the
1933 team. Ultimately, our Babe Ruth First Day Cover is also a 50th Anniversary All-Star envelope. Ernie Banks, Lefty Gomez, Bill Terry, Charlie Gehringer, and Bill Dickey all personally
autographed each envelope and ALL are now sold out items. NO 1983 All-Star collection is be complete without them, even at secondary market prices.
