Through the years Gateway has created both a philatelic and baseball bonanza in a way unmatched by any individual or company either before 1978 or since. No other company in the history of American merchandising has created such an innovative means of recording both the history of baseball or the bringing together of the players and their fans as Gateway. One of our most enjoyable and challenging projects each year is telling the story of the World Series on sets of envelopes postmarked each date of the Series, photographing events of the games, detailing the highlights of each game, and obtaining autographs from the most prominent players of each game. Never did we dream in 1978 when our first set was issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the World Series that this item would become such an annual favorite among customers. Through the years we obtained thousands of autographs from hundreds of players who played prominent parts in the Series.

Gateway’s offering of World Series sets has always been unique, traditionally offering customers two autographs per set, usually intended to provide one autograph from each team.  Customers usually pick superstars mentioned in the copy, including winning and losing pitchers and managers.  Many of the players we have acquired have retired, and are approaching induction into the Hall of Fame, if not already there.  However, in some cases our supplies are low enough that we MUST supply certain autographs in each set, as there are no unautographed envelopes for that game.  In some cases, we ABSOLUTELY MUST supply you a package deal based on the autographs in the set.  We are making sure you get the best deal possible for the price you pay.

Certificates of Authenticity are difficult to create and tailor for each World Series set.  The only prepared certificates available at this time are on the 1993 sets.  Until we can create an innovative certificate we ask you to base your purchase decisions on the sterling reputation of Gateway.  We are working to accommodate all the changing laws, but ultimately the costs will be passed to the customers.  All World Series sets have a stadium artpiece on Game 1 as a neutral envelope for any autograph.
